Allah said in Al-Quran, meaning:

“And the firmament has He raised high, and He has set the Balance (of Justice), in order that ye may not transgress (due) balance. So establish weight with Justice and fall not short in the balance.”

Al-Rahman (55):7-9
The beloved Rasulullah S.A.W. said, meaning:

“One who is destined by Allah to have authority over the affairs of Muslims, then he closes the door against the needs of Muslims and the poor among Muslims, Allah will surely deny him from his needs.”

Narrated by Abu Daud & Tarmizi

Allah’s reminder on Justice must be observed and practised without fail, whether it is applied to ourselves or to others, even if it is a matter related to our hated enemy. If Justice as required by Allah S.W.T. guides our acts, inshaAllah, establishing harmony within the Ummah can become a reality. But if Justice is a matter of lip service or mere rhetoric, one can mislead the Ummah for a while, but eventually when injustice become clear and known, it will be too late to regret.

History serves a useful lesson. It would be beneficial to observe Pharaoh whose  power and tyranny was unmatched during his days. To save his position and his throne, he succumbed to the misguided advice of his ministers around him who were in corroboration with the court astrologer, who predicted that there would be born a male child who would eventually grow up to dethrone him.

Despite the power in his hand, a sense of insecurity coupled with the passion and lust for power, blinded him to command his subjects to immediately kill all pregnant women and all newly born male babies. Henceforth, the whole government machinery and all his cronies and admirers, spared no time and efforts to implement Pharaoh’s command.

Pharaoh’s army committed tragic cruelty and brutal murder of innocent pregnant women as well as newly born children. Blood was shed and innocent people died as victims of senseless killing. Babies were even snatched from their mothers’ loving hands to die at the atrocious hands of an army. Was Pharaoh and his army,  together with his advisors and supporters able to preserve their power and  secure themselves and their government?

The over domineering Governance and Justice of Allah S.W.T put an end to the merciless acts of Pharaoh and his kinsmen while the Prophet of Allah, Musa ‘Alaihissalam and his followers were saved at the stroke of a walking stick, a miracle by the Grace of Allah.

Many similar events from history become Signs from Allah for us to think and learn. Powerful leaders who were led by their lust and passion, such as Hitler, Mussolini, and similar others did not come to a happy end either.

While they were in power, there were many who idolise and praise them; there were many who cheered and adored them, and there were many cronies who licked favours around them; but when they fall, those who praised and honoured them turned their backs.

Instead they became people who cursed them and even sowed further hatred towards those who were once cruel and evil. It looks like history does occasionally repeat itself, yet human memory from lessons in history also seems to be short.

We must learn to guard ourselves from becoming victims to our evil passion, not to listen to malicious and unfounded rumours by checking and screening all news and information, and must be able to dismiss provocations from irresponsible elements.

One must develop the ability to differentiate between sincere and honest advice and council against untrustworthy suggestions. Islam is the Din of nasihat or advice. But true and false advice require judicious, intelligent and wise verification and judgement, which only Al-Quran and Sunnah that can serve as the criteria of Truth.

A patient has to listen to the advice of his doctor who might save his life. But if he makes an enemy of an expert medical advisor, and in addition he runs  against his advice, the moment of reckoning may not be too distant. For that reason, to foster and establish harmony within the Ummah, essentially require adherence to the Guidance of Al-Quran and Sunnah.
