Translated by Zainur Alsmi bt. Sharif The Kurish clan left Abu Talib’s house in anger and desperation as all their bribes were rejected by the Prophet (m.p.h.). However, they were determined to continue blocking all the efforts by the Prophet (m.p.h.) in making man worship Allah only and uniting and inculcating love between men. Man will also be enlightened towards the right path, which Allah Permits and Consents to. The Prophet (m.p.h.)’s life was a struggle in upholding Islam and in retrospect the Kurish clan had also increased their objections and obstacles to these efforts. They sweared at him, cursed, ridiculed and belittled him. At one stage they put animal excreta on him while he was doing his solat. Fatimah the Prophet (m.p.h.)’s daughter patiently removed all these wastes from her father’s body. Simultaneously the Kurish clan also threatened and unjustly harmed the Prophet (m.p.h.) and his friends. Bilal bin Rabbi, a slave who belonged to Umaiyah bin Khilaf was mercilessly tortured because he (Bilal) embraced Islam. Bilal was hit, left under the blazing heat of the sun with a big boulder on top of his body. All these acts of torture were to make Bilal renounce Islam and returned being a slave with Umaiyah bin Khilaf. However, Bilal did not budge from his stand and stuck to his belief in Islam. He repeatedly said the word, “ahad, ahad, ahad”, which means that Allah is one, Allah is one. The Prophet (m.p.h.) heard about this incident and commanded Abu Bakar to buy Bilal and to give him his freedom. Bilal then became one of the faithful followers of the Prophet (m.p.h.) and the “muazzim” (the Muslim caller for prayers). Similar tragedies happened to other friends of the Prophet (m.p.h.) , such as Ammar and his parents. Upon embracing Islam these 3 people were asked by the Mushrikins (unbelievers) to leave their homes during the very hot season. They were forced to wander in the very hot dessert where very hot winds were rampant. Subsequently Ammar’s father died from this torture. Sumaiyah, Ammar’s mother on the other hand was having many arguments with Abu Jahal concerning their embracement of Islam. Ultimately Abu Jahal killed her by brutally piercing her heart with a sword. Ammar was also tortured, and in the end he obeyed them in order to save his own life, even though his heart was still with Allah. When he told the Prophet (m.p.h.) about his situation, the Prophet (m.p.h.) agreed, as Ammar did what he has to do in order to save his own life. (To be continued) |
