Translated by Zainur Alsmi bt. Sharif The Kurish leaders continued to block the prophet’s (m.p.h.) efforts in spreading Islam. When they failed to block men from hearing verses from the Koran, they then resorted to blocking the public from converting to Islam. They did this by blocking people who were on their way to Mecca or on the very moment they reached Mecca. They also appealed to the public to distant themselves from Muhammed, the prophet’s (m.p.h.), whom they accused as mad and sinful as he was criticizing and rejecting the religion of their forefathers. They accused the prophet’s (m.p.h.) of teaching a religion, which would lead the people astray. These Kurish leaders did not realize that they themselves were the deviationist from the true teaching of Allah (S.W.T.).They were worshipping idols, other men, power, wealth, materials, women and succumbing to their own desires instead of worshipping Allah, the only God. Through their actions they were destroying the faith and believe in one God, Allah, which had been practiced by all the messengers and prophets before Muhammed, the prophet’s (m.p.h.). However, all these efforts by the Kurish failed. On the other hand, the prophet’s (m.p.h.) was slowly attracting many people, especially the poor who were oppressed by the Kurish leaders who lacked the sense of humanity. They continued to oppress the prophet’s (m.p.h.) and hi followers. The prophet’s (m.p.h.) was ridiculed, accused of all the wrong doings, attacked with filth and human excreta, abused physically and accused of teaching a religion which contradicted to that of their forefathers. The prophet’s (m.p.h.) was accused of dividing the community since he asked the people to worship Allah Alone and not to have any substitute for Him. This was the Command form Allah to bring back the people to worshipping only Him, the master and creator of thee Universe. In His Sayings in the Koran (Surah Al Ikhlas: 1-4) as translated by M.T.D. Hilali and M.M. Khan, 1997 in the Noble Quran , 17 th editition, pub. by Darussalam, Saudi Arabia.:
In the daily life of the Kurish they worshipped idols, other men, power, wealth, their own desires etc. as has been said in the Koran (Surah Al Jatssiyah: 23) and as translated by M.T.D. Hilali and M.M. Khan, 1997 in the Noble Quran , 17 th editition, pub. by Darussalam, Saudi Arabia.: “Have you seen those who take his own lust (vain desires) as his ilah (God)? And Allah knowing (him as such), left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his heart, and put a cover on his sight. Who then will guide him after Allah? Will you then not remember?”
